Visitor Information

Checking on a loved one or visits during a hospital stay from the people our patients care about are an important part of healing. We welcome our patients' friends and family, and we seek to provide an environment that is comfortable, nurturing, and considerate of our patients' needs.

Checking On A Loved One

Family and friends of the patient can call directly to the room instead of going through the hospital operator. It is the patient's responsibility to inform family members and friends of their phone number.

Visitor Policy

Entering the Hospital

Visitors should continue to enter through the Emergency Room Doors.

Between the hours of 7 am and 3 pm visitors are required to check-in at the greeter’s desk.  If you arrive outside of those hours, please check in at the security desk near the ER.

All Behavioral Health Unit visitors need to check-in with security near the ER at all times and security will contact the unit for specific instructions and to escort you to the unit, if approved.

We Are Committed To Protecting Your Health.

To help protect our patients, visitors, and employees from exposure to respiratory viral illnesses, including seasonal influenza, our visitor policy is:

  • Anyone exhibiting symptoms of a cold or other respiratory infection will be asked to refrain from visiting patients or wear a mask at all times while in the hospital to protect our staff and patients.

Critical Care and Cardiac Critical Care Visiting Hours

Daily visiting hours and rules are established for the comfort and safety of your loved one or friend, as well as for other patients in the medical center. We welcome visitors and realize that you are integral to our patient's recovery. Your adherence to our visiting policies will assist us in doing the best job we can to help your loved one recover. Visiting hours are 24 hours per day, however, mornings and evenings are busy times in the Critical Care Units.

Nurses and respiratory therapists change shifts between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m., and again from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. After the morning shift change, staff will participate in morning rounds at 10:15 am to 11:00 a.m. Nurses and respiratory therapists are exchanging detailed information about patients, performing thorough assessments, and providing medicines and treatments at this time.

Before coming into the Critical Care Unit, please use the wall phone in the visitor waiting room to call directly into the Unit. It is very important that you announce your arrival to ensure the dignity and privacy of all patients and ensure you will not be interrupting patient care procedures.

Key Points about Visiting the Critical Care Units

  • Visitors must be 14 years or older.
  • Children are not permitted in the patient's room, nor may they wait unattended in the waiting areas.
  • Please limit your stay to 15-20 minutes.
  • Maximum number of visitors in the room is two at a time
  • A caregiver may interrupt your visit during some patient care routines.
  • Hand washing is the single most important procedure in a hospital for preventing and controlling the spread of infection. Wash your hands or use hand sanitizer when entering and leaving the Critical Care Unit.
  • To protect the health of our patients, please do not visit if you feel unwell, have a cold or other respiratory infection.
  • Visiting Visitors may be limited to two at a time.
  • We ask that visits be limited to those who are closest to the patient. The number of times you may visit and the length of visits may be limited due to the unpredictable nature of critical care.

Understand MICU and the CCU are unpredictable: things may not always go as planned. This can be frustrating, but we ask for your understanding. While we are fully appreciative of the impact this policy has on our patients and visitors, we believe these actions are necessary to help prevent the spread of illness within the medical center. We are flexible and will work with you to meet your needs and the special needs of the patient (i.e. end of life care).

Visitation in Behavioral Health Units

Adult patients may receive visitors of their own choice at reasonable hours unless the treatment team has determined in advance that a visitor or visitors would seriously interfere with a patient’s or others’ treatment or welfare. The visitation list is subject to practitioner review and order providing final guidance to approve or disapprove visitors. Decisions to not approve visitors are never to be made for the convenience of hospital staff or clinicians.

  • Minor-age patients between the aged 14-17 may add or refuse visitors to their visitation list if they signed themselves in for treatment.
  • Minor-age patients ages 5-17 signed in by parent/guardians may have visitors added to the visitation list by their parent/guardian. The visitation list is subject to practitioner review and order providing final guidance to approve or disapprove visitors.
  • No visitor under the age of 14 will be permitted on the adult unit.
  • Patients in seclusion or restraint are not permitted visitors without special orders from treating practitioner.

For adult and child behavioral health patients, visitors sign in but are not required to sign out. Visitation is not permitted in patient rooms and visitors are monitored in a common area, typically the dining room. Visitors are escorted off the unit at the completion of visitation.
